The 3DS game that celebrated the 25th Anniversary of Final Fantasy has just been released, for free, on iOS. For those unaware of this title, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy is the ultimate trip down memory lane, a musical/rhythm game in which you take some of your favorite Final Fantasy characters through different stages, all while reliving some of the greatest music this storied franchise has to offer. A few songs will be available for free and many more will be available for in-app purchasing.
You go through FMS (Field Music Stages), BMS (Battle Music Stages), and a new mode, Quest Medley. This new mode lets you, as described by the iTunes listing, "...play through songs you’ve purchased in a rhythmical gauntlet! Each quest is a set made up of a single FMS and a single BMS, and each time that you play, you will find yourself facing different songs, different levels of difficulties, and different rewards for completion."
I have sunk many hours into the 3DS version and loved every moment of it and it seems there will be some reason to revisit this title if you have played it before. Square Enix claims this version has been "augmented with more songs and new playable characters to make it easier to dive into and play than every before!"
I personally look forward to jumping back into this game and seeing how it runs on my iPhone. One thing to note for newcomers, to be able to play all the songs you may have to spend upwards of $150 dollars. Considering that the 3DS version costs $29.99 on Amazon, this is a pretty huge rip-off. However, if you don't have a 3DS, it's free to try and enjoy, and all I know is that any excuse to relive the moments and music from Final Fantasy is worth a shot, and maybe only spending a few dollars on some of your favorites will be all you need to enjoy this great title.
